Open Call: Nonconform 2.0 virtual writing residencies

Deadline: 15 Jul, 2022
Residency period: Jul-Oct, 2022
In the framework of Nonconform 2.0 project the Museum of Nonconformist Art in St. Petersburg and international partners are looking for six art professionals working with texts to join a virtual writing residency.

What can be proposed?
In this project we would like to unite authors with different approaches to working with texts. You can propose an essay, an interview, a research article, a story for children, poetry, comics or any other format.

The working language of the project is English. However, the participants can use both Russian or English for their writing.

As a result of the online residencies the participants are expected to produce a text addressing a chosen theme/phenomenon from the Soviet underground culture and unofficial art. All the materials will be presented in a bilingual printed publication that will appear in October-November 2022.

The deadline for applications is July 15th 2022. Applicants will be informed about the results by July 20th 2022.

This residency opportunity is open to art professionals based in the U.S. and Russia who are interested in writing about topics related to the heritage of Soviet underground culture and unofficial art. There are no requirements of formal education or age limit.

- A series of five online events taking place in July-August 2022 (group sessions, consultations, reading clubs);
- Individual work in September-October 2022

Each participant will receive a 900$ fee, as well as research assistance and individual consultations.

We are particularly interested in proposals highlighting underrepresented groups and phenomena within the history of nonconformist art, such as stories of women creatives, artists with disabilities, life and work of artists representing ethnic minorities, LGBTQIA+ culture, marginalised groups.
