The Association of Artistic Residencies of Russia is a professional community aimed at arranging for cooperation and expertise exchange between residence program professionals.

Art residences are a way to support artists, writers, curators, and other culture professionals – by providing them time, space, resources, and capabilities for fruitful operation; often beyond the environment they are used to. Residences may set up conditions for solitude and concentration or for studying local cultural, historical, geographical, and social specifics; communication and cooperation with other artists, researchers, and professionals of other fields; interaction with the locals, etc. Art residence participants often establish relations between cities, countries, and cultures, while art residences help them extend and expand participants' expertise.

The Association's project was initiated by the Yekaterinburg History Museum – the 2019 winner of the Museum 4.0 contest under the charity program Museum Unlimited of the Vladimir Potanin Charity Foundation.

At the moment, the Association is an informal network.
