On Affecting Change Through Artist-In-Residencies
A hands-on publication on how to create change
in and through small art institutions
In December 2020 and January 2021 Kunsthuis SYB, Hotel Maria Kapel, and AiR Platform NL organised an online symposium where specialists from the residency and broader art field discussed together on how to create change in and through small art institutions. It was a reflection on 2020, as this year has brought not only the global pandemic but also Black Lives Matter protests, #metoo debates and other struggles for justice and equality. Therefore the question of how residencies, small art organizations, and artists can contribute to an anti-racist, feminist, caring, and sustainable future became crucial.

The publication summarises participants' contributions, insights and suggestions for further reading after the symposium. The organisers hope it brings together voices and propositions based in the daily running of residencies and art spaces, to inspire and give tools to think about organisational change.
