AIR (Art.ITMO.Residency) is a hybrid transforming space that exists in three modes: as a gallery, a workshop and science art residency. AIR operates as part of the Art&Science Center of ITMO University aimes at creating a space for transdisciplinary dialogue. The goal of Art.ITMO.Residency is to develop and foster new collaborations between artists and scientists, and to blur the boundaries between theory and practice.
"Nowadays art residency is the only format that provides laboratory conditions for art making. The process of creating art today seems more important than the result in itself. It is during the process when the content of the artwork is discussed and the boundaries of the art are stated. Art residency gives an opportunity to form the meaning of future art. The new project of ITMO University is guided by these goals," – says an art historian and the head of Art&Science Master's program Dimitri Ozerkov.
Residency program gives an opportunity for participation to Russian and international science artists. The residency provides a working space, an access to ITMO laboratories, as well as a budget, covering accommodation and traveling costs. The next open call is planned to 2021.
